Community Collaboration
The success of AVANCE-Austin’s Parent-Child Education Program could not be achieved without strong community partnerships. Over the years we have created a solid tapestry of interconnected organizations and individuals who help support through inter-agency referrals, resource sharing, and external expertise. This is key to our program’s holistic service provision. Listed below are organizations and individuals with whom we have strong ties that benefit AVANCE-Austin as an agency and link AVANCE families with the community resources needed to overcome the numerous barriers facing each family.
We welcome any and all opportunities to work together with organizations and individuals in the Austin, Texas community. The advantages of collaboration are numerous, and they benefit all parties involved. Benefits of community collaboration include referrals, shared resources, time savings, alternative perspectives, and educational opportunities. The following is a list of our partner agencies:
Network Partnerships
Success by Six: Spearheaded by United Way, this coalition of early childhood learning providers, of which AVANCE-Austin is a part, seeks to ensure agencies work together to avoid duplication of services and address unmet needs.
One Voice of Central Texas: Serves as a unifying body for 50+ of Austin’s leading social service agencies to bring forth common voice around advocacy and policy issues. AVANCE-Austin’s Executive Director participates as a member of the Executive Committee.
Non-Profit Agencies
American Gateways: Presents to parents on immigration issues and their legal rights and responsibilities.
Any Baby Can: Receives referrals for children identified as having developmental disabilities during the screening process.
Booksprings: Donates new books to all AVANCE families through their Reading is Fundamental program.
ConnectCare: Screens children AVANCE refers who are experiencing developmental delays, and, if disabilities are present, provides intensive support and case management.
Foundation Communites: Presents to parents workshops on budgeting and financial management.
The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas: Provides training, resources, and coordination to the AmeriCoprs Literacy members who serve as ESL instructors with AVANCE.
SafePlace: Trains AVANCE staff on identifying and handling domestic violence situations amongst participants, presents to parents on issues of domestic violence, and acts as a referral services.
Texas AgriLife Extension: Provides a 6 week series on health and nutrition for participants.
Foundation Communities: Assists participants with financial planning and household budgets.
ACC: Provides participants with information on a range of continuing education programs in the community.
Manos de Cristo: Offers participants complementary services, such as computer literacy, Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, and advanced ESL.
City Agencies
The Austin Public Library: Presents general information during AVANCE’s resource speaker series, and follows up with a special class providing in depth training for parents on how to read to their children. AVANCE-Austin then provides hands-on learning by taking families to the public library, where library representatives lead tours of their facilities.
Austin Independent School District
Wooldridge Elementary: Provides in-kind parent and child classroom space once a week, on Tuesdays.
Palm Elementary: Provides in-kind parent and child classroom space once a week, on Wednesdays.
Pickle Elementary: Provides in-kind parent and child classroom space once a week, on Thursdays.
Allan Elementary: Provides in-kind parent and child classroom space once a week, on Fridays.
